About
I wanted to bring daylight indoors.
When I moved to San Francisco, I found myself working from home in a dark apartment. Spending my days there felt depressing. I wanted the room I worked in to feel more like a beautiful summer day, and started looking for a way to make that happen.
First, I built one for myself.
I came across a handful of online blogs about bringing much brighter light indoors. People were building their own setups, often called “lumenators.” I decided to try it.
Building my own took a lot of work and wasn't cheap. And after all that, my setup wasn't aesthetic, wasn't dimmable, color temperature adjustable, or smart home connected.
So I set out to make the lamp I’d wanted to buy.
A personal project became Brighter.
Our crowdfunding campaign raised more than $400,000. Other people wanted a brighter home, too. Now we had to turn the prototype into hundreds of lamps.
After delivering our first 500 lamps, I wrote a retrospective about the process: the mistakes, the fixes, and what I would do differently.
Everything I wanted in a lamp.
Brighter brings together the features I wanted for my own home:
- 60,000 lumens of light
- 95+ CRI for photography grade color accuracy
- Dimmable brightness
- Adjustable color temperature
- Smart home control
If you’ve ever wished your apartment or home office felt brighter, you’re the person I started building this for.
